Information:
The Greek land flag was established at the First National Assembly of Epidaurus, a few months after the declaration of the Greek Revolution of 1821, in January 1822. It was decided to be a square "cyan" area divided by a white cross into four equal sections. All flags of the period carried a cross, a symbol of the Orthodox Christian religion, because of the faith and hope for the throwing off of the Ottoman yoke.
